8 Pillars of Wellness

Here are my 8 pillars of wellness and these are what I strive every day to keep some kind of balance between them all. When I'm out of whack in one area... I have my Wellness Toolkit to refer to.


Pillar 1

Self-Care - this is your inner world and this has everything to do with what you do for you. Regular health check ups, a good skin care routine, mindfulness is all about self-reflection and gratitude practices are vital here. Walks in nature, watching sunsets, loving kindness to self and being in tune with your emotions and what you are needing at particular times.


Pillar 2

Nutrition & Food - are you looking at what you are consuming and how this benefits your health and wellness? If there are foods we are consuming that we know don't serve us well, take a moment to ask yourself 'why am I eating this?' Making sure our meals are energising and nutritious. Do you love to cook? Making sure to eat a wholefood plant-based diet and to eat mindfully. Let's start treating our body as the beautiful being that it is.


Pillar 3

Physical Health - are you on the move daily? Are we getting the exercise we need? Of course I like to make sure the activity I choose is something that I will actually do and that I enjoy eg; yoga, cycling, walking, pilates, pickle ball. Physical health is also about taking a vacation away from your every day, it's also about your sexual health and about relaxation as well. Taking time away from social media can be an important moment as we can instead take a walk on the beach or sit out in the sunshine with a cup of tea.


Pillar 4

Stress Management - how do you deal with life's stressors? Do you take time out, do you make appointments for massages, bubble baths, meditation and other practices to clear clutter from your mind. Self-compassion is a beautiful thing. Allowing yourself to cry, to laugh and to cuddle something your love. Getting professional help when you need it!


Pillar 5

Personal Growth - this is about exercising your mind and your body. To learn something new that you are interested in and also to learn something new about yourself. Learning to play a musical instrument, taking a painting/drawing class, singing lessons or just reading more about a hobby you really love.


Pillar 6

Sleep - the land of slumber is a place where we rest, relax, restore and repair. Do you have a good bedtime ritual that clears the clutter? Do you fall asleep easily and are you waking completely rested? We need 7-9 hours of sleep a night so making sure there is a regular time to go to bed and to wake is a good idea according to research.


Pillar 7

Fun & Recreation - are you making sure that you really do have some fun? Do you love to go to the movies, buy yourself a present, act silly, laugh and dream? Doing things that you loved in your childhood - so much fun!


Pillar 8

Family & Friends - are you spending time with those that you love? That lift you up and make you come away with that satisfied feeling? Do you go on coffee dates, share interests and laughs? Having a community around you is so very important and there are many health benefits to this.
