Choices

We have the power…

From the moment we wake in the morning until we lay our head down on that pillow at night… we have choices.

I choose to get up a bit earlier in the morning, so I have time to fit my morning routine in before I go to work.

One thing that I have learnt as I navigate my 50’s is that all along I’ve had the power to make the choices that I’ve made in my life. If my choices were bad, they were my choices. If they were good, they were my choices. But I’ve come to learn that through education and the path I have chosen to take, the choices I make today are all based on my future health and wellness. Choosing to live a life where I am not bound by chronic illness and to make the choices now to get the right nutrition that I need, to move my body so I am physically strong and to use mindfulness is what is 100% important to me. I am hearing all the time that people in my life are starting to succumb to the symptoms they’ve been having all of these years. I am hearing about cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and there’s more and it makes me so sad.

The choices that we make today determines our future and these can set us up for success or for failure. The choices we make on our nutrition influences our physical and internal health. I wish I’d known more about making healthier choices, creating healthier habits and how to use mindfulness daily. Also knowing that if I chose a way of living that was not serving me well that I do have the choice to change and take a different path. I want to know that I have the choice to eat healthy organic produce, read and listen to material that inspires me and fills me with knowledge, move my body with exercise that I really enjoy and will do the right thing by me and that outside influences like advertising and peer group pressure will not penetrate my will.

One of the best choices I made for myself was to cut back on alcohol. Now I didn’t want to for a really long time. I loved it but it was not loving me and I was choosing to ignore the signs and symptoms my body was giving me. I thought that the only way to socialise and have fun was to have a glass of wine in my hand but I have now learnt that is not the case at all. I had my challenges, don’t get me wrong, but I have chosen to listen to my body first and to trust in what it is telling me. How we choose to react to challenges determines how it will all play out.

I love the fact that I love myself enough to choose to live a healthy life! I choose my cup of tea and mindfulness in the afternoon. I choose the apple instead of the doughnut.
