Eating Plant-Based...

What's it all about?

The whole foods plant-based diet has a wide breadth of benefit, in that the same dietary approach that will prevent or even reverse one disease is beneficial to the management of others. There is compelling evidence that dietary patterns that include processed foods and animal products, even in moderation, are the leading cause of modern diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The evidence that plant-based diets are health supporting is consistent across all types of research, particularly in relation to whole plant foods. (Plant Based Health Australia, n.d.).

Eating a wholefood plant-based diet (WFPB) includes green leafy vegetables, fruits, wholegrains, legumes, nuts and seeds. It excludes animal proteins, all processed food, saturated fats and even oils. Sugar and salt are kept to a minimum. One thing I love is there are no calorie restrictions and the enjoyment of an abundance of produce that is low in calories but high in nutrients make meal times very satisfying. There are many evidence based benefits to adopting a wholefood plant-based diet and these include preventing and reversing heart disease, can reduce the need for medications for people with diabetes, can significantly help reduce the number of gut health problems that are on the rise and the lower energy in plant-based foods can support weight management without the need to restrict food intake.

I started my transition to eating this way during the Covid lockdowns because my weight and health were going to go one of two ways and I decided that it was going to be the healthy way. After studying to gain my Certificate in Holistic Wellness Coaching, I decided I wanted to also add the Wholefood Plant-Based Nutrition component to my coaching kit. With all the knowledge I had and the reasons behind this way of eating it only took me about a year to break some unhealthy habits, but I can tell you I am absolutely loving this way of eating. I not only have managed to lose 10kg without dieting I am also sleeping better, I feel vibrant and alive, my skin is glowing and I know deep inside that I am making myself a #1 priority. The mindful approach I've taken is not about what you are excluding but what you are INCLUDING that has set my wellness journey on the right path forward.

This is a huge topic with many discoveries and if you are interested in exploring this way of eating please reach out. Together we can transition to a healthier and more vital you!
