I started writing a blog on what I thought of menopause, and it turned out to be quite a wishy-washy blog with no real defining moment LOL! So that can go in the scrap heap!
I’ve since listened to some podcasts and changed my view on how I feel about it all. To take the calming approach as to how to look after my body, my mind and to manage the symptoms that I am faced with. The podcast was from a naturopath who specialises in hormonal health, and I found listening to her (also has a webinar on YouTube about it) helped me see menopause in a different light.
Taking the time to listen to our bodies and to nurture it from the inside and outside. To set up good routines when it comes to sleep, exercise, nutrition and mindfulness. To slow down our life… we all deserve this when we get to the menopause stage and I like that idea. She talks about daily rituals of deep breathing techniques, meditation, Qigong etc. Discussion around symptoms and what they might mean and supplements to support us through this time.
My wellness journey has taken me down these paths that I’ve mentioned above. To be better at my rituals is what I would like to work on. To have loving kindness and nurture myself more often and to have less expectations on myself when it comes to ticking boxes of all the things I want to achieve.
Moving to Hervey Bay has really started to open my eyes as to how to live a slower paced life. We’ve only been here 5 months, but I can tell you we are really starting to allow ourselves to slow down and that it’s ok to do so. So my intentions whilst I’m now in menopause is to slow down, drink more water, nourish myself with beautiful wholefoods, get some more supplements to support my system, exercise daily and to start going to bed earlier.
Sleep is something I have been lacking for a while as I’ve been looking after my 17-year-old cat, Jackson. Sadly, we said goodbye to him a month ago and I’ve slowly been getting back on track with a better sleep routine. Trying to get into bed by 9.30pm means starting to wind down about 8.30pm. I dim the lights around the house, no screen time (although the tv may be on some nights), do some journaling and if I have enough time before bed, I’ll have a chamomile tea. I may even try and get to bed a little earlier than 9.30pm… it’s on my list of intentions.
If you’re interested the Podcast is “Well Woman” - a natural women's health podcast with Sulin Size. She was one of my course presenters when I studied at Nature Care College.
