When Winter sets upon us, sometimes we are not as well prepared as we can be. I really do not like the colder months as my fibromyalgia does not either. Moving up north to Hervey Bay was a huge draw card towards living a better life through this season. We shall see how my body fairs through a warmer Winter.
Some tips to help you stay well during Winter:
Eat a healthy diet - make sure that you are getting plenty of the nutrients to keep the nasties at bay - so lots of antioxidants. These are molecules that stabilise free radicals and these are unstable molecules that can damage your healthy cells. So Vitamins C & E, selenium, coenzyme Q10, beta carotene and lycopene are your go to.
Make sure you are getting plenty of fluids to flush out any toxins and nasties that are lingering in your system - water, herbal teas etc.
Keep your movement up daily - walking, cycling, yoga, pilates, zumba etc.
Keep comfortably warm - a nice scarf, beanie and clothing to help keep you snuggly but not over heated.
Check in with your GP - Winter is a good time to get your annual wellness check and if you are feeling under the weather.
Look after your mood and mental health - stressor relief practices are a go to here - meditation, relaxation, journaling, deep breathing exercises.
Get out in the sunlight - this alone brightens up your day let alone instantly fills you with warmth.
Protect your skin with moisturiser - keep a protective barrier on your skin. Your skin is a portal so keeping it healthy will keep any baddies out and help against dehydration.
Sip nice warm drinks - if you love a cup of tea this one is for you. Black tea with freshly squeezed lemon, herbal teas, even warm plain water can do the trick.
Keep your social life busy - it's easy to hibernate and stay indoors but we all know what hanging out with our friends feels like - it lifts the spirits and that sense of connectedness does amazing things for our mood and mental health.
Create a beautiful sleeping environment to help you obtain the sleep you need - low lighting, relaxing music, a really nice bedtime ritual
Enjoy this season and stay healthy and well.
