Want to lose the weight but sick of dieting?

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

Are you over it? Do you get the motivation and follow it wholeheartedly? Lose 8kg then put on 9? Are you missing out on all the fun by having too many restrictions? What if I told you I lost 10kg by making a few changes to some of my eating habits... would you be interested to know more?

I cannot tell you how many times I have been on a 'diet' (aka yo-yo dieting) to only then find myself no longer on a diet as I just could not sustain the restrictions that I had to endure. The motivation was definitely there before and during but the longevity of it... not something that I could maintain in my every day for the rest of my life. Basically, they were never going to become a lifestyle for me.

Studying Holistic Wellness has taught me to look beyond my physical body and to look at myself as a whole person. My mind was the biggest part of me that needed some re-education, some changes to the way I thought about myself and to work through the type of person I wanted to be. I ate a relatively healthy diet but did I really understand what my body needed? Listening to my body has become a very important part of the foods I choose today.

Research has shown and proven to me that adding more plant based foods into my diet has so many benefits. Not only am I getting more fibre and antioxidants... I'm also getting so many more vitamins and minerals by adding a huge variety of these foods into my every day. I gave myself a month to go without any animal based products (meat, chicken, eggs, fish, diary etc) and I can't tell you how good I started to feel. I also started cutting down my alcohol consumption to 2 glasses each on a Friday and Saturday night only and not drinking during the week at all.

I started by learning how to bring mindfulness into my life. A daily meditation has taught me how to be mindful especially concentrating on being in the present moment which has helped with stress, anxiety and an active mind that was constantly thinking and worrying. I made sure I wrote 3 things I was grateful for each day for 7 days and this became a part of my daily routine that I have now been doing for 2 years. I have discovered the act of self-care and self-love and this then led to me wanting to look after myself internally in every aspect.

I started slowly by introducing 'meat free Monday's' into the house and it grew from there. I started to notice I had more energy and I felt like exercising and moving doing things that I enjoyed doing. My mind felt clear and clean, especially by not consuming alcohol every day which in turn led me to having a better night's sleep and waking up fresher. I was curious as to how this was affecting my weight so I started checking in on this every fortnight on the same day and the same time. It was the first time ever that I was weighing myself out of pure curiosity instead of needing to have a result to justify why I was putting myself through yet another diet that was guaranteed to work!

I can only tell you how fantastic I feel now... I don't count calories anymore, I don't weigh my food, I enjoy an abundance of food, I have a glass of wine when I feel like it (which is not that often now) and I know that what I am consuming through all of my studies, that I am nourishing my mind, body, soul and spirit with the way that I am eating and cooking.
